Portland is coming to town!

It wasn't really that long ago that those words were relatively insignificant to teams in the NBA world. Sadly, that isn't the case this year. Nor will it be for years to come.

What we're seeing in Portland is team growing up fast. Despite a slowdown to their incredible start of the season, Brandon Roy and company are still a quite a force to be reckoned with on the floor. Don't believe me? Well the past two times we've played them this season they've slowed our roll offensively and put us away. Still don't believe me? Just ask the Lakers, who they put away no more than two days ago.

Make the JUMP to breakdown the beast!

Despite having some potent scorers in their starting lineup, (Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge) Portland's bench can go pretty deep. Travis Outlaw is a certified Warrior Killer and from a quick glance at his stats this year, we're not the only team he's giving problems to. Jarrett Jack has also been logging some pretty serious minutes and has been delivering offensively.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not discounting our boys here! With Beans' absence we have been treated to some nice little surprises in our line-up. Nellie has finally reached down to our young-uns' and pulled up Brandan Wright into getting some serious minutes. And Wright has begun to deliver.

In the meanwhile:

* C-Webb has slowly started to get some legs underneath him and begun to grab more boards, nail a few more shots, and even net some dimes.
* MP2 has put on a couple of impressive showings, leading me to believe that he's starting to rediscover his role with this team.
* Austin Croshere has been scary hot. (Seriously. That's never going to get old.)

Add these developments to the current nightly threats that are Ellis, Davis and Jackson, and I see a team headed in the right direction. We fully have the capability to dispatch Portland tonight. And we better deliver. Because right now in the West...

...every game counts.

REMINDER: If you're going to the game tonight, leave nice and early. Argentina is playing Mexico (soccer) at McAfee so that area is going to be PACKED! Drive safe.

Predictions:
* Baron comes to play. Brandon Roy requests a re-do of the All Star game with Davis in his place.
* C-Webb. Double Double. It's gotta happen one of these days!
* Brandan Wright extends for a dunk that makes Dhalsim's arms look short.
* Warriors by 4.

Lastly, be sure to say hi to Dave and friends over at Blazer's Edge and leave some thoughts on tonight's game!

nice street fighter reference
Its time to return the favor for those beatdowns we got earlier. Those do seem like a long time ago and portland isnt playing at the level anymore. I expect baron to bring his A game to show nate who the all star is.

The Warrior Killer tonight
will be none other than James Jones. I see the Warriors losing him a lot at the three point line and him making a lot of threes.

And if Steve Blake has 20 at halftime again...

Thank you, Hash
A solid and concise pre-game.  Forget about Will Ferell, people!
The Warriors need to keep beating good teams, and especially the weak ones (duh).
Portland is pretty good, and so are we.
Have fun with the thread...
i need to see this game at the pub!

by Cocomotion on Mar 2, 2008 3:58 PM PST   0 recs

First of all,
I think that booing BRoy is so necessary. I predict Aldridge is aspiring to be the Warrior Killer. Still fresh from that win vs LA, and basking in all that glory, he wants to continue that. Besides stating the obvious, I think Webber needs to watch BWright b/c he's not hefty enough to handle Aldridge alone.

Another thing, what if the warriors made a social networking site? (http://www.iamatrailblazersfan.com/ and http://suns.planetorange.net)
Would the dubz become a sell-out or no? I mean, Roy got into the All-Star game b/c of crazy ass marketing.

hello,
I am a ptb fan, and can attest to the "play" of roy being the reason he was selected, we have not broken the barrier of national audience yet, but will, and if we did I'm sure there would be alot of broy fans across the country, but we just ain't there yet, we hope the addition of one Oden and Fernandez will cure the lack of national exposure and the respect will follow, I'm not here to rip and hope that didn't seem too defensive, but I assure you roy is the real deal, and will be great for a long time...good luck in tonite's game.

by faith on Mar 2, 2008 4:47 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Well. . .
Let's agree to disagree. The stats don't lie, which you have forgotten to state. Anyway, I stand by what  I say about Baron being more deserving , but I can care less about the national exposure the Dubz receive. Lastly, great game tonight Dubz!

are you kidding me?
bellinelli a bust?

he was a late first rounder i mean besides nellie hyping him up, we really shouldn't have very high expectations for him.  Really what can you show in such inconsistent and minimal playing time.  The only thing he has shown is that he isn't quite ready, but he has potential IMO.

Very amazed
at how often Brandan Wright's name is mentioned so far. If he can keep this up consistently, we'll need to lock him up along side Monta and Biedrins for our future.

For the first time since November, when Pietrus set up for that three I expected it to go in. That felt great.

by gsw4life on Mar 2, 2008 7:08 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

yeah
60.9%, i just looked it up.  but he "only" had 15 ppg.

loving the warriors defense (especially in the first quarter) and i like how nelson has been emptying out the bench - biedrins injury is a bit of a blessing in disguise so far, especially if he'll be back up to speed for that hellish stretch at the end of march/beginning of april.

by thebighead on Mar 2, 2008 7:06 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

the qualifier
10 games played & 150+ attempts.  Calderon didn't shoot the ball enough to qualify.
"To my dear brother, Noompsy."

by Tim N Chris Burger on Mar 2, 2008 7:18 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Wow
for one thing, much better Warrior effort.

for another thing, Baron is struggling.

But the main reason I am posting is to say Croshere is playing tremendous big man defense for his capabilities. He is often mismatched but he really does a good job holding his own.

by belilaugh on Mar 2, 2008 7:06 PM PST   0 recs

Houston
wins. 3-0 without Yao.

by sunghan on Mar 2, 2008 7:22 PM PST   0 recs

Wright's arms
singlehandedly got the Warriors a turnover there.

by belilaugh on Mar 2, 2008 7:25 PM PST   0 recs

and
he bailed out baron on that play, that was a sloppy pass.

How long before
we start having fun coming up with nicknames for Brandan Wright?

by IQofaWarrior on Mar 2, 2008 7:26 PM PST   0 recs

They are asking who Brandan Wright resembles
a lesser version of Kevin Garnett I think. Obviously not the same caliber but that type of player.

I'm a bit surprised
that Baron didn't come out on fire to prove to the world that he should have been an All Star over Brandon Roy.

by IQofaWarrior on Mar 2, 2008 7:42 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

o dang
biedrins has an ear ring. gangsta!

by saintdee on Mar 2, 2008 7:44 PM PST   0 recs

I know it's a minor, probably unimportant thing
but I don't see the harm in Monta throwing the ball up there at the end of the quarter and hoping to get lucky and have it go in. .8 left, what's the worst that could happen? Hopefully he's not thinking about protecting the shooting average (doubt it, just saying).

by belilaugh on Mar 2, 2008 7:50 PM PST   0 recs

Monta's mindset
I think Monta's mindset is that anything outside the three pt line is not is range, so he doesn't try.

by IQofaWarrior on Mar 2, 2008 7:53 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Tied after 3 quarters
I don't like the feel of this. Portland won the last 2 quarters. Baron looks like he's struggling again.

I cannot believe Monta
missed a wide open shot.

by IQofaWarrior on Mar 2, 2008 8:06 PM PST   0 recs

better yet
a 7 foot wide open shot.

by GSwarrior on Mar 2, 2008 8:07 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Terrible sequence
right there. I usually don't mind Jackson's "rhythm" threes in the fourth but he should know better. If you just picked the ball up off of the ground then you are in no position to shoot a three. There is absolutely no rhythm in that shot. Oh well, he'll make up for it I'm sure.

by belilaugh on Mar 2, 2008 8:07 PM PST   0 recs

There's the 3
He just made up for it

I love the hustle
that kept the ball alive, even though we didn't make it. It reminds me so much of what Adonal used to bring to the team.

Bad play by Buke
you have to get a shot off, even if you have no confidence (which I know Buke does) you at least have to throw it up there and possibly get an offensive rebound.

by belilaugh on Mar 2, 2008 8:19 PM PST   0 recs
