Full Circle: Nelson, Webber to reunite?

Imagine if the stars really did realign themselves and Webber returned to the bay. Is he the veteren the Dubs need? Would a marriage actually work? I am not knowledgable enough of basketball to know these answers. But we had a chance for a Championship when Chris was last here. We have never had a chance since. Could a reunion be just what the Dr. ordered? i would love to see it. Minimal expense, possibly big return.

Word on the street says Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson has been seen at Chris Webber's Natomas restaurant, Center Court with C-Webb, twice recently. That only could mean Webber and Nelson are considering the completion of the ultimate full circle and a Webber return to Golden State.

They beefed big-time 14 years ago while both were with the Warriors, but perhaps it is true that time heals all wounds, even gashes.

Stay tuned. With agent Aaron Goodwin representing Gary Payton as well as Webber, could the former Skyline High School (Oakland) guard be far behind? Baron Davis, one of the league's best point guards, needs rest, and Payton surely could fill that backup role. "

I read somewhere
that the lakers didnt want to take Cweb cause hes pretty out of shape...

Running with the dubs will be torture for him... I dont think it will work out less he shapes up.

big man with no inside presence?
thanks but no thanks.  personally, this is the certain kind of player that i just hate to see when i'm out playing ball.  The tallest dude on the floor needs to be inside, banging the boards, and opening up for the little guys (me).  I do not need the 6 ft+ guys taking top-of-the-key jump shots.

PLZ NO!!!!!

Irony
Isn't it ironic that Webber wanted out of GS because he didn't want to play center (among other things...

...and now wants to return to the NBA in a part time capacity as a C, just like he had to do on the Pistons?

I wonder what kinda shape he's in. This might be worth it for the entertainment value of Nellie and CWebb together again alone.

GP and CWebb
Fitz and Brooks on their KNBR show today really seemed to hint at the Warriors bringing on GP and CWebb for the rest of this season as not being too far-fetched. We'll just have to see!

by Atma Brother ONE on Jan 24, 2008 4:05 PM PST   0 recs

I've really...
...come around to this Webber idea, but i'd so much rather see Watson and Ellis back up Davis than watch GP amble around running his mouth. Just cause he's from here doesn't mean it makes sense.

by Zack Vank on Jan 25, 2008 8:06 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

far fetched
CWebb can shoot & pass - a Nelson fav for big men
and as our offense bogs down if we don't run, it's just possible he could be the trailing big man that we use in half court situations - it's not a perfect fit, and wouldn't CWebb rather have a shot at a ring in detroit than come back here as the prodigal son for a marginal playoff team?

his coming back is far-fetched because of their history, but not as far-fetched as GP coming here - at least CWebb has something to offer

but if they do, I'll make good on my promise Atma

by hardcore on Jan 24, 2008 5:04 PM PST   0 recs

it could work
he's a big man that can pass, and even now he probably could rebound better than Al... I know Nellie's creative enough to make it work, but I don't know if we really want Webber playing significant minutes for us. If he's willing to accept a minor role on our team, he'd likely be a good addition, but from everything I read about Webber he was looking for playing time on a championship contender.

Chris Webber
34 years old?  He's not as old as I thought.

Hey I'd rather have CWebb and Gary Payton on the team than Pietrus and Hudson.  They could provide some more veteran leadership to offset our youth.  Most importantly they'd come here to play to WIN, not for money like alot of young players do.  (Not necessarily pointing the finger at our young guys.)

by jlagace on Jan 24, 2008 9:03 PM PST   0 recs

i'd sign them
for the veteran minimum.. it can't hurt to have some more experience.

by saintdee on Jan 24, 2008 10:47 PM PST   0 recs

Jesus...
I think Webbers knee would blow if he ran with the Dubs >_<

by aznwarrior44 on Jan 25, 2008 12:00 AM PST   0 recs

Poor man's way of adding depth
I don't know if either of these two has anything left in the tank. I think if both are signed, it just shows that the Warriors are not looking to add any more salary beyond this year.
At best, I say this adds a little more depth, especially since Nelson seems to be more inclined to play veterans.
Really though, we already signed to broken down players this offseason. Why take the chance on two more.

by tangel29 on Jan 25, 2008 12:06 AM PST   0 recs

The big...
...upside to signing Webber is that he can take the ball in the post and pass out to an open man. I think he could be the piece that could specifically aide our ineptitude when playing against zone defense.
