But You're Not a Fool... Are You?

Here's what Baron Davis had to say after last night's blowout loss to the Clevelands Cavs minus that LeBron fellow (from SFGate):

"We've got the worst road record of any team in the NBA, so who are we fooling, man? Who are we fooling?" Davis said of the Warriors' postseason hopes. "How are we going to be a playoff team (when) we can't win on the road?

"We're fooling ourselves."

People have got to get serious about winning, that's all. We've got some guys that don't know how to prepare for games and it shows in their play," said Davis, who led the Warriors with 21 points and eight assists, but went 1-for-7 from three-point range.

"I mean, it's shocking that we get beat like that and LeBron is out. We talked about it this morning and before the game that they were going to come out and play with a lot of hustle and passion.

"It's like it's falling on deaf ears."

BD didn't name names, but any guesses about who he's referring to when he says there are some guys who don't know how to prepare for games?

I only watched the last 6 mins of the game
but I'll take a stab at it...
  1. Harrington (4-12 on the floor???)
  2. Jax (but I heard he had the flu so probably not him)
  3. Foyle (one friggin rebound??!!?!)
  4. Monta (3-10 shooting???)
  5. himself (7-18 and 1-7 from the 3 ain't gonna cut it)
  6. MP (need I say more?)
  7. Barnes (for not rebounding)
But Nellie needs to play Kalenna more than MP and Barnes.

I agree manute
Kelenna is a rocket scientist compared to MP.  Not hating on MP, I love his athleticsim but he's dumb as a doorknob. Do you ever notice the look of a deer in headlights?

by flaaron on Jan 31, 2007 10:53 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

I do hope they
pass on signing him and use the saved money to get a vet role player

the Woes
Harrington has had one good game rebounding and one, last night that was acceptable.  In both those games, he's failed to shoot.  I wonder if Mullin missed the clause in his contract that says he will shoot well or rebound, but never at the same time.  I'm sure it's there, right under the clause that says he's supposed to be overhyped as a player who makes a positive difference on a team despite many years of play that suggests otherwise.

by jae on Jan 31, 2007 11:54 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

Jax
is a very low percentage shooter.  Way worse than Dunleavy in fact

Foyle hardly played

I am not sure playing Kalenna more would help

The starters have to show up or it all doesn't matter

by Zig on Jan 31, 2007 1:20 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

this might be a good thing
maybe this would fire the guys up for the rest of the road trip.

by Warrior fan 23 on Jan 31, 2007 10:52 AM PST   0 recs

My votes are for
Monta Ellis and MP2. They've been there the whole year, are young and should go all out every game.

There is no reason Ellis and Pietrus should be outplayed--EVER--by Daniel Gibson and David Wesley.

Also, Wesley had 5 rebounds in 25 minutes???

by TastesLikeBurning on Jan 31, 2007 10:53 AM PST   0 recs

kelenna
Why wasn't he played earlier? This guy was the only one hustlin besides Baron and Beans last night. He came in and was active. Why did Nellie sit him so long? I say, whoever is willing to come in and put forth effort, give em a chance.

by tadams1080 on Jan 31, 2007 11:01 AM PST   0 recs

It a fair point
but does it really matter?

by Zig on Jan 31, 2007 1:23 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

huh?
why would it not matter? Azu as shown he is one of the smartest guys on this team, not to mention one of the hardest working AND he has a nice shot to go along with all that. He definetly should of been shoved out there early on when no one else was doing squat.

by GreyMurphy on Jan 31, 2007 2:15 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Wowwww
First of all, great post Atma... I know we haven't seen eye to eye lately, but this was a very nice post.

Well, it's shocking to see BD call someone out, but I have a very strong gut feeling that he's referring to Pietrus.

I feel bad cuz we luv MP, he's a fan favorite and has energy... well... used to, but lately, he is stinkin it up!  It's like after the trade he must realize that he's the new weak link and is not stepping up.  Can't shoot FT's, can't make anything inside the key to save his life, and is relying too much on that outside corner 3.

This is unfortunate since he needs to be signed this summer.  Also, his stock value is declining.   Geez, we'll see what happens the next 3 games.

It ain't EASY, stoppin' TOO EASY

He is also totally
out of control on the break and his defense stinks even though he is athletic.  Again he is simply a dumb player

by Zig on Jan 31, 2007 1:24 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

its sad
I think we'll make the playoffs when we don't make it for 20 years.  Sometimes its a totally different team playing out there (when we win) then there are those times like yesterday when we don't even show up to play.  I honestly thought we lacked a lot of defense yesterday, gave them a lot of open looks (like 12 for 20 from the 3pt range).  And just not blocking a lot of the passing lanes.  We didn't move the ball around that well either.

by djchuckdeez on Jan 31, 2007 11:24 AM PST   0 recs

Dumb Arses
I would think he's talking about LL cool P. This guy looks like he's the type that just shows up and plays, and doesn't even think about basketball off the court. Stop worrying about the ladies and concentrate on the game mayne! I love his lock down D and his sweet corner shot, but what else is there in his game? It seems he is completely incapable of getting anyone else involved in the game...

by GreyMurphy on Jan 31, 2007 11:33 AM PST   0 recs

watch his defense
a little closer.  He is athletic but not smart on D

by Zig on Jan 31, 2007 1:25 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Not the smartest on D
But he sure tries the hardest. Can't we give this man an E for effort?

by GreyMurphy on Jan 31, 2007 2:04 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

This is a problem
that needs to be fixed.  The team, in general, and all the individuals, need to get their acts together.  I play on a HS team where the PG dislikes the play of everyone else, and it just tears the team apart.  When he gets angry at other players, the team dies. This can't happen to the Warrior's. People need to get their butts in gear before all chemistry falls apart.

Something is obviously more wrong than usual, given Baron's quotes. Generally BD takes the blame if someone else misses a shot. He's not one to distribute blame, so something is wrong.  LET'S SEE SOME HUSTLE, DUBS!!!

by bradyk2 on Jan 31, 2007 11:50 AM PST   0 recs

i agree
it takes 5! sometimes more when you need ppl of the bench.

by djchuckdeez on Jan 31, 2007 11:54 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

I think....
...it's Pietrus.
He looked lost last night.  Hopefully he'll pick it up the next game.  And get smarter.

by semarubaka on Jan 31, 2007 12:05 PM PST   0 recs

come on now
it was everybody. It's easy to single Pietrus out, but no one was great last night. Baron didn't even have a great night. We looked like a high school team out there last night, a bad one at that. I hope we pick it up tonight. This could be a long road trip

by tadams1080 on Jan 31, 2007 12:11 PM PST   0 recs

Yeah Pietrus
I would ID MP as a guy who does not consistently play hard nor did he do much for the French team this summer.

Who knows how many of these Warriors partied too hard after a lopsided win, didn't warm up or took the win too seriously.  Nellie does so lets see who gets minutes next game.

I could see this loss coming a mile away. This franchise does not know what it takes to win games and when they do win, they act like it's a big deal and everythings been fixed.

Kudos to BD for talking like a team leader.

by joe sez on Jan 31, 2007 1:04 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I guess.....
they just need to play like a team instead of 5 individuals; start with defense, share the ball and hit the wide open jumpers/layups.
They should start driving and draw fouls when they start shooting badly, and not just settling for 3's.

by semarubaka on Jan 31, 2007 1:10 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I am never surprised by crap like this on the road
I always laugh whenever I hear people saying the Warriors will do well on on upcoming road trips. Statements like, "we could go 5-1 or 4-2 on this trip" always make me cringe bc I know we will be lucky to win 2 of 6 on ANY road trip.
Clutch shots on the road? Forget about it. Big rebound? Good luck finding that. Big Defensive stop? The oppossing team will ALWAYS make a big basket when they need to.
The sad thing is that every Warrior fan knows this is the case, regardless of how optimistic we are.

The hard truth
This team is worse than their reconrd shows because they have played 6 more games at home  going into this trip

this trip could really sink them

by Zig on Jan 31, 2007 1:28 PM PST   0 recs

murdered!!!
i dont know whats worse?  saddams televised execution or the drubbing the cavs gave the dubbz???  i swear i witnessed a homicide... public execution is illegal in some countries isnt it???  i good thing it aint televised tonight...

People have got to get serious about winning
" We've got some guys that don't know how to prepare for games and it shows in their play,"

Isn't this the coaches job to motivate and design the plan for each game?
I only was able to watch the first half last night then I had an appointment  but what I remember was a lot of turnovers on poor passes and a lot of the Cavs working thru their big Zman?  Why were we throwing the ball away so much? and why don't we have a bigman who can counter the big opposition?
Baron might be able to fix the sloppy play by leaning on guys but he won't be able to fix the bigman problem by himself. Maybe they should make Baron the general manager and let him make it all well?
Thanks, Baron for trying to stop the bleeding I appreciate it man but I hope you aren't  just setting yourself up for more dissappointment,  one man can't win ball games no matter how much you want it.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jan 31, 2007 2:14 PM PST   0 recs

I don't like ...
calling out your teammates in public. This should remain in the locker room. We win together - we lose together.

by BlauGelb on Jan 31, 2007 3:09 PM PST   0 recs

we will all know
if Kabuki is starting tonight and MP is riding the pine...

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

ZU
I was puzzled also as to why Kelenna couldn't get in 'til it was garbage time.  If everyone else is sucking, i don't see why he can't get in early and maybe give the teams some needed energy and hustle.

Also, i think MP is a bonehead.  He makes awful decisions and his D isn't even remotely close to "lockdown" anymore.  It's had a serious drop off ever since he started getting increased minutes last season.  And since his shot is so inconsistent, he's basically useless out there.

I really hope we don't waste money re-signing him this offseason.

by dirrty on Jan 31, 2007 4:53 PM PST   0 recs

azubuike
should see more minutes tonight.  Even though Nellie doesn't like rookies, he's got to notice the smart, consistent play he's been getting from Kelenna.  In fact, Nellie just put him in with 4:47 to go in the 2nd.

by EternalWarriorsOptimist on Jan 31, 2007 4:57 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

He's got to be talking about
Pietrus and Foyle.

Pietrus always kind of seems like he's mentally somewhere else.  He did actually make some free throws, which was a surprise, but he hasn't been stepping up the way he should, especially on defense.  Which Jackson and Harrington in the lineup, Pietrus is the 5th option for offense, but he ABSOLUTELY needs to get rebounds and PLAY D!

Foyle is taking everything too lightly this season (sorry Zorgon).  Has anyone ever watched him during shootarounds before a game at the Arena?  He's usually passing the ball to fans, eating popcorn with 8 year olds in the stands, and shooting corner 3's.  With the money we're paying him at least he can ACT like a professional, even if he doesn't play like one.

by EternalWarriorsOptimist on Jan 31, 2007 4:55 PM PST   0 recs

Foyle is taking everything too lightly this season
Blame Nelson for that. If he'd came up with a plan to play Foyle more then ThaDonal would be more interested in the games. Lots of games he never gets in even in situations where he could help, negative reinforcement doesn't work as well as positive.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jan 31, 2007 8:17 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Sounds like
Baron wants out ?
Trade him away =)
Im a baron fan but I realli like the warriors.. - -'
But the next thing you know is baron wanting out.. to a 'contender'

by Barnz87 on Jan 31, 2007 6:16 PM PST   0 recs

haha
yea i think barons right.

No team is gonna make the playoffs unless they can win on the road. The warriors just suck.

Their performance the past two games is like they were playing with murphleavy again.

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league. Purgatory is thy home.
