Dunleavy/Murphy/Diogu/Mcleod GONE

OMG OMG OMG
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2733891

I NEVER NEVER thought the warriors would be able to get rid of Dunleavy... much less Dunleavy and Murphy  in the same trade to the same team!!!!!! Not only do we get Al Harrington, but we get a legit backup combo guard with Sarunas Jaslashgdlhjgasdlkheruygsh. I dont know about the crazy Stephen Jackson, and I dont know the other guy involved in the deal... but as soon as I saw this on espn.com all I could say was.... "WOW?!?!?!?!?!" Post-trade, do you guys think the Warriors will keep Pietrus(restricted FA when the season is up), Kelena, and Barnes?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

when I said....
I dont know about Stephen "I'm really Crazy" Jackson, I meant, I dont know if he will be a good thing for this team or a cancer.

by ZombieWarrior on Jan 17, 2007 10:38 AM PST   0 recs

I mean its not like they
are a championship team and he might disrupt their chemistry

Its a good risk.  He has off the court problems but seems to play hard.  Certainly not as crazy as Artest

Even if this whole thing doesn't work out player wise in the long run it is worth it for the cap room

by Zig on Jan 17, 2007 1:18 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

It is also....
sad to see Diogu go... but I think it was worth it for Al Harrington AND Sarunas/Stephen Jackson.

by ZombieWarrior on Jan 17, 2007 10:39 AM PST   0 recs

my question is this:
how will we have 8 in uniform for tonights game?

I LOVE THIS TRADE

Sad to see diogu go
I like the trade but i beleive trading diogu will come back to haunt us.

by Dubs4Life on Jan 17, 2007 10:44 AM PST   0 recs

why?
Don't overvalue the hometown players

I think the jury is out but I seriously doubt he is an allstar

If they make the playoffs this year and open up cap space for the future I would take it even if he does become one

by Zig on Jan 17, 2007 1:22 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

I originally voted "No"....
for the Playoff polls, can I take my answer back now?

by ZombieWarrior on Jan 17, 2007 10:45 AM PST   0 recs

Still "no"
I can't believe that anyone thought we'd make the playoffs, at any point, this entire year.  The West is too good and this roster, even now, has serious flaws.

If Baron and Monta are the back court, which may or may not work, we now have 4 guys that expect to play at the 3 (JRich, Harrington, Jackson, and Pietrus).  How's that going to work?

by Carney04 on Jan 17, 2007 11:20 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

jrich is our starting 2 guard

by jmefrisco on Jan 17, 2007 11:23 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

harrington can play the 4
so when healthy we'd have a starting lineup of baron, j-rich, barnes/pietrus, harrington, biedrins.

by AJC3317 on Jan 17, 2007 11:53 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

Harrington
is a 3/4

Richardson and Jackson are 2/3

And Peitrus just wants to play

Does it really matter in Nellies offense anyway?

I can see them making the playoffs.  They have to compete with the Clips and Minn and Houston.  All have flaws

by Zig on Jan 17, 2007 1:24 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

WOW>>>>WOW>>>>>WOW
i can't believe this...excuse me, need to change my pants. Ok, i'm back. WOW! Dun and Murph in one fell swoop? Mully for president. Now I just need to check the salaries of Sjax and Jaskagivishsisishsk. I know that Al got a HUGE deal since we were all put through the ringer on that one...and I believe Powell is an expiring one yr. deal. If Jax can play half as good ON the warriors as he does AGAINST the w's then this will work out quite nicely indeed. Dude I love this deal.
Baby Al - nice
Sjax - when he is staying out of strip clubs he is nice
Jaskagivishsis - throw in, but if i remember correctly he is a tenacious defender and streaky shooter
Powell - $$ throw in
Diogu - it was time to go, guys he wasn't good let's face the facts here.
Murph - good run for a few years there, but his time has come. I wish him luck.
Dun - don't let the door hit ya
McCloud - i'll miss your FT shooting :)

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

Steve Jack
had my back.  I really hate that guy. Sad to see Diogu go, but more sad to see that ugly mofo on the Warriors.

In other news:  DUNLEAVY IS GONE.  NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

by Lamar Latrell on Jan 17, 2007 10:47 AM PST   0 recs

this trade is awesome
its not like we got back AWESOME players.  but we got back quality players. and we gave up CAP EATING TRASH! cept ike. IKE IKE IKE.

this is such a good deal for the mullin co.  We actually got some THUGS! some grit. playoffffffffffssssssssssssss

by GreyMurphy on Jan 17, 2007 11:02 AM PST   0 recs

i checked
RealGm's trade checker and this 8 player deal does in fact work salary wise. Amazing.
Now on to the contracts:

Harrington - this season plus 3 more (tops out at 10 mil)
Jax - this season plus 3 more (tops out at 7.5 mil)
Jasik - this season plus 1 more (makes 4 mil next year)
Powell - expiring this season

On the W's side:
Murph - this season plus 4 more years (tops out at 12 mil)
Dun - this season plus 4 more years (tops out at 10.5 mil)
Ike - this season plus 2 more years (tops out at 4 mil)
Mc - expiring this season

WOW! it actually looks like the W's not only save total dollars but also trim each contract by a year. This is incredible...on a sidenote Sjax is a bargain at 6-7 mil per.

by Kobe on Jan 17, 2007 11:04 AM PST   0 recs

good point jrizzle
one of the facts thats always overlooked is the warriors are SOFT.  I remember, especially playing the pacers, that our guys would easily get pushed around.  Now we got some serious thugs that wont get pushed around by anyone.

by Dubs4Life on Jan 17, 2007 11:05 AM PST   0 recs

Savings down the line
If my math is right, it saves the Dubs a total of about 30 mill between now and 2010-11 (3 million in 08-09, 3 million 09-10, and 23 million in 10-11).

I'm absolutely in love with this trade.
There's nothing at all wrong with it. It literally just gives us better players for crappier ones. I will miss Diogu but the fact remains that the kid was in the doghouse, and he could never get out. If he wasn't gonna work in this system I'm glad he's gone now, because this means more time for him, and Nellie knows how to make a winner.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

by coma on Jan 17, 2007 11:13 AM PST   0 recs

Well....so it is true...
I hope we can have these players here tonight to suit up? if not how will we be able to play??? I don't think we have the League Minimum??
It is what it is....

my only guess is
they activate a couple of the injured players and play like 6 guys. 45 minutes for azibuike?

it usually takes some time
for guys to fly out and pass physicals, etc. I'd be very surprised if all the guys involved here are able to do that by tonight.

If...
Al's playing the 4, then Monta'll play the 2 and JRich the 3, I would think.  Al Harrington unfortunately is not a 4 and won't do any better there than our previous under-sized 4s.

Nellie is definitely going to try to get away with 4 guards and Biedrins.  We'll score a lot and lose, just like most of Nellie's previous teams.

i love it i love it i love it
but now we really really need Melvin Ely...

think Mullie can ride this wave of success and offer zarko, powell, and a future #2 for ely?

And now I'll have to change my webpin!

by bradyk2 on Jan 17, 2007 11:30 AM PST   0 recs

wow props to mullin and higgins....
a trade needed to be done and they got it done.  With Harrington and Jackson, they instantly get more athleticism at both wings.  I don't really think losing diogu was bad.  Personally I always thought he was just another malik rose.  Sarunas Jakasdkjfhakjdhf is 4mil off our books this year.  Hopefully this gives us then wiggle room to resign beans and monta. I don't understand why the pacers would pull this deal.  Whatever though, I don't care. WE WIN. The only thing really missing from this team is a good PF.

Yi perhaps?

by ThermoElectro on Jan 17, 2007 11:31 AM PST   0 recs

hello???
Where is the GSoM crew? They're sleeping on the big news!

by sunsgossip on Jan 17, 2007 11:32 AM PST   0 recs

Seems like only yesterday
We were upset at Stephen Jackson hitting the game winning 3 and also the GSoM guys calling him skeletor!

Two quality players, who are making much less than MurphLeavy?!

(Thanks for the time you put in though Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy. Best of luck to you.)

Great trade. Here's hoping they want to play here and help us get into the playoffs!

Indiana is petering on the fence of .500 like the Warriors have been with Stephen Jax and Al Harrington, but these guys should improve our roster considerably. Getting more atheletic and more consistent shooters.

by back2back51s on Jan 17, 2007 12:24 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

formidable 5
BD
JRich
Jax
Al
Beans

Very well equiped to run a nellie offense. With Monta, Barnes, MP off the bench. Hmm...yeah, this team needs a tall/atheltic 4 still.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

by OaktownFunk on Jan 17, 2007 11:32 AM PST   0 recs

Indeed/Agreed.
I still think we need a 4. Badly. But I've gotta say this might have been the absolute best thing they can do. They got some skilled shooters and an all around great player for two of the highest paid benchers ever. And I'm ridiculously happy.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

by coma on Jan 17, 2007 11:39 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

questions
as i stated before, a good trade.

but

questions remain

will the ball move? how will sjax and al respond to nellies harsh style? or are they well versed with carslile?

by jrizzle on Jan 17, 2007 11:38 AM PST   0 recs

Isn't Harrington an athletic PF
I think harrington would do very well as a PF in nellie's system. I mean they have barnes starting the 4 right now. Harrington is bigger with more of an inside game and probably just as athletic if not more.  Barnes can probably dribble and start the break better though. haven't seen harrington enough to know that much about his game.

by cmikepee on Jan 17, 2007 11:41 AM PST   0 recs

do the pacers
think the that the dundun boy and trojan murphy will be good in the east.  See you later Big Brother and the Holding Company.  That ike guy will probably be good, but the money.  Its the money that's important.
It's such a shitty feeling when you got to walk around with a wallet thats light and a bunch of inconsistent players pulling at your legs.
What a day when you find the secret cash compartment in the wallet and the hangerons are gone.
Take these players and run MR Don

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF ANY OF THE NEW PLAYERS CAN PLAY DEFENSE.  DUNDUN was pretty crappy on D right?

by baumerworld on Jan 17, 2007 11:42 AM PST   0 recs

harrington
kinda has a weird game. A SF body with a combo of PF/SF skills.  BUT agressive as hell. a bit of a me first guy tho along with sjax.  they HAVE to play tonight.  we had 8 healthy bodies on monday and we just traded 4

by jrizzle on Jan 17, 2007 11:43 AM PST   0 recs

One thing is for certain
that both of these players fit nellies system.  They both like to move up the court and use a little more frredom on the offensive end.  I remember hearing AL complaining about carlsile calling all the plays from the sidelines.  I can not wait for the clips game tonight.  I am definitely going saturday night vs. bron bron.

by Dubs4Life on Jan 17, 2007 11:47 AM PST   0 recs

smart money on the clips tonight
but warriors for the playoffs!
All-time Oakland Warriors starting five: Hardaway, J-Rich, Mullin, Mr. Mean & The Chief

by OaktownWarrior on Jan 17, 2007 11:53 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

yes yes baumer
they can play defense.  Indiana/Carslile? UNNACCEPTABLE not to play defense.  And rick is a real prick about it. coached for DET(defense), played for the celtics.  Sjax played for the spurs. does popovich allow non defense?

however, both played for the hawks.

in sum, they are tough players man. real tough. AND THIS TEAM HAS NONE OF THOSE GUYS.

by jrizzle on Jan 17, 2007 11:48 AM PST   0 recs

i thought we'd get
30-40 cents on the dollar max for both Dunleavy and Murphy...looks like we got about $1.25

at worst we have trade assets that are a lot more attractive to the league than the White Wonders.

anyone know the +- of the guys we have coming in? Kawakami made it a point to blog about the horribly bad +- numbers of Murph and Diogu this year in their limited playing time

by BimboColes on Jan 17, 2007 11:48 AM PST   0 recs

game tonight
There is NO way the new guys play tonight. I think it is standard to have to pass a physical and you get 48 hrs. to report to your new team. This is why the W's brought POB back up and signed that Major guy to the 10 day.
Saturday night vs. the Cavs will be the unveiling of your NEW Golden State Warriors.

great trade, amazing.
Did Nellie push Mullin aside and do it himself :)

by Athletix Man on Jan 17, 2007 11:54 AM PST   0 recs

woowowow
I read this, and I'm tottaly flipping:P
Woow. Get rid of the salary's.
I don't think this trade makes the team that lot better, but Mullin did a nice job of getting rid of contracts. All people said those contracts should haunt him for years, but he get rid of it.
Question, is Harrington capable of playing the pf?

by Jacque on Jan 17, 2007 11:56 AM PST   0 recs

yes
harrington is more than capable, he's played it extensively in the past. He is a PERFECT fit for Nellie's system

by bobfitzgerald on Jan 17, 2007 2:14 PM PST   0 recs

i really
feel exactly the same and my reaction was the same too.  i found out cuz i turned on NBA TV channel 416 on comcast and they were interviewing Larry Bird and some old guy (pacers owner or GM or something) and he was talking and then Larry bird was like " blah blah blah.... murphy will help us out on the perimeter...." or something like that and i was like what???  Haha then the details flashed on the bottom and i was like Murphy Dunleavy YES!! Ike aww crap tough to see him go, not a huge loss tho.... Al Harrington! Steven Jackson! not to sure about him.... then i looked up the details and yeah.  pretty happy with the trade

by travisl212 on Jan 17, 2007 4:21 PM PST   0 recs

Sarunas Jasekivicious
Sharas for short. I am so fucking happy right now. 2 years ago i lived in Israel when he still played for Maccabi Tel Aviv. He led them to two Euro League titles in a row, winning MVP one year. (since he's left, Maccabi has struggled to find a point guard and floor leader like him).

You guys probably know about the others, so i'll talk about him.

Basically he was the heart and soul of that Maccabi team. He possesses a sweet stroke and is a great FT shooter (92 percent). He's a good shooter and a great passer. He also dropped like 37 on team USA playing for Lithuania in the past Olympics.

The downside is that he is terrible at defense. He  should be a solid backup to B Diddy at the 1.
