Warriors Call Up Charles Watson aka CJ Watson aka Quiet Storm

Well we knew something was coming. The Warriors have called up NBDL point guard Charles Watson aka CJ Watson aka "Quiet Storm" from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Looks like Nellie will get to rest Baron Davis a little bit more now. Watson will be on a 10-day contract, but hopefully he's a longer term solution for the Warriors backup PG needs. For more check out Call-Up #9: CJ Watson to Golden State [DraftExpress] and Warriors to sign CJ Watson [Inside the Warriors].

A storm named CJ is coming to the Bay!

Make the jump for some more info on the Quiet Storm.

Star-divide

I already know what your first question is. "What's up with that fresh nickname Quiet Storm?" In CJ's words [CJ Watson: An Introduction]:

The nickname quiet storm came from my sister, back when I was 17. She gave me the nickname just before I was going to get it tattooed on my arm. It sounded good, so I ran with it, and it fits me well, so it’s been with me ever since-- because I'm quiet by nature, but my game will hit you and have you caught up like a storm. Don't ask me, but hey it fits, if you know me well. Which many claim they do, but only few really do.

Since we treat our folks good here, I'd like to give CJ a new nickname. I'm showing my age here, but I'm bestowing CJ with the balla nicknames "102.9" and "KBLX".

Another unstoppable nickname coined at GSoM!

102.9 was the December NBDL Player of the Month!

See J Diaries:

CJ's a fellow blogger so hopefully we can get him on for a world famous GSoM Q&A soon. DraftExpress President Jonathan Givony blessed us with a great Q&A [Brandan Wright | Marco Belinelli | Stephane Lasme | 2007 NBA Draft Class] earlier this season and this DraftExpress blogger and new Warrior would undoubtedly be really fun to have on our show sometime.

Think CJ and the Warriors are a good match?

Quiet Storm is here!
CJ dropped 42 on Saturday! He averages 26 in the D-League! haha! Welcome to the Roaracle!
what it is.

isnt 42 in a double OT game...
Like..28? if it didnt go to OT...which is still good...but i would of dropped at least 50

haha
even if it was double OT, IIRC OT's are only 5 minutes long. So he played an extra 10 minutes or 5/6 of an extra quarter or had a chance to score his points in 58 minutes not 48. So no, 42 is not equivalent to a regulation 28.

package deals
Wouldn't it be great if CJ showed that he was decent and the Dubs could package he, pietrus and kosta in a deal.  Or he could be  a backup pg.  Who knows.  Here's some stuff:
His latest and greatest:

and he's tough, watch Mini B take out Noah with an elbow:

Keep Monta Movement.

not to be Mr Negative but...
...no one wants Quiet Storm, Kosta, Beli or any of our scrubs. To get anyone halfway decent the Warriors will have to give up Monta and the money from the JRich deal. And that would just be a decent upgrade. The roster is flawed but there are assets to work with.  We just need to remember the bargaining pieces are the players who are actually good.  So please no more Pietrus-and-POB-for-Kobe-type deals from the GSoM community.

Impossible
If he signs for the rest of the year tomorrow, he won't be eligible to be traded until long after the trading deadline.  There is no way that CJ Watson becomes anything but CJ Watson for quite some time.

LOL @ the second clip
Ha...that was awesome.  The announcer: "Yea, he clocked him."  Reminds me of that Will Ferrel skit talking about Charlie Sheen, he'll COLD COCK YA!

Welcome to the Bay CJ.  Now please please please be a surprise hit ala Buke!!

D-League Stats
If he could continue with his stats from the D-League to the Pro's that would be sick!

50% FG
40% 3PT
90% FT

5 RPG
5 APG

!!!!

Hope he only relieves Baron's Minutes and hope Don Nelson continues to play Monta with consistent minutes..it would be all good! GO WARRIORS! SO WHAT!

another scrub that's gonna be over-rated by GSOMers.

I'm ecstatic.

oh no
another pessimistic post by kenntoe =P

Seriously though, give the guy a chance to play. If he can help to keep Baron from getting injured he deserves to be over-rated by GSoMers.

cj watson
Will he be able to play tonight against the Spurs?  I'm interested in what he can provide for the Warriors.

by mrhater on Jan 7, 2008 4:54 PM PST   0 recs

yay
I am pleased the Mullin/Nelson went with a younger player with upside instead of a veteran retread. Whether it works out or not, props for going with higher potential gain than mediocrity.

Watson's scouting report says he doesn't have ungodly athleticism, but a crafty handle and high basketball IQ to use it. Though a combo guard, Draft Express says he's closer to a PG than SG.

I like everything I'm hearing

If this is true
He could easily pave the way to OZ's dream of moving Monta while his stock is high.

managing resources
if Mullin is going to pull the trigger for a major roster upgrade, whatever pieces he needs to trade (MP, Monta, etc.) needs to be used on a productive big - and there isn't room to make a mistake on that if we are to go beyond appearing in the playoffs.

a backup PG is not where we want to squander the limited pieces we have to work with, which is why I'm happy they picked up Watson how they did

Kurt Thomas is still up in Seattle, is there anyone else out there that we could obtain who would fit our biggest needs better? I would be disappointed if we allowed another team to grab him and we come up with less or worse, nothing added to our frontline

in Nelson we trust

Any
Any new nicknames? How about KBLX?
CJ Miles. From San Andreas to the Bay!

by tadams1080 on Jan 7, 2008 6:01 PM PST   0 recs

HAHA
I love KBLX.  "Quiet Storm" programming also makes me think of "between the sheets" or like "makin' out with your woman (or man)."  imagine the fun in yelling "between the sheets from downtown!" or "between the sheets, shooting two."

I Hope CJ is added to the list of valuable
midseason lower league pickups that Don Nelson has a habit of bringing into the NBA.  Its amazing when you think of the NBA players Nelly gave a boost to early in their careers.
Best duo since...

Any guy
named the Quiet Storm has to be a solid pickup.
